Cats that are not sterilized are more territorial. They will fight other cats to defend their territory and also for a female.
When cats are in real fights, when they are not playing, their tails and back are puffed up (piloerected), teeth are shown, and there are strong bites.
Cat fighting is something that should be stopped, since it can lead to wounds and disease transmission. Through distraction, making a loud noise or dropping something heavy on the floor, you may be able to stop a fight between two cats. Do not try to remove one cat from another or you may get harmed as well.
Just Playing
Playing is an essential part of the development of small cats. In this "fights" cats usually don't show their teeth and don't get injured.
