Holding a cat

How to pick up a cat

You must approach the cat carefully. Do not grab the cat. Preferably, let the cat comes to you. Start by caressing the cat slowly. When the cat is getting used to your touch, you can take him from the ground:

  • You must place a hand beneath the chest of the cat, and the other hand under the back of the cat.
  • Lift the cat slowly, gently, without sudden movements. Pull the cat to your chest making sure that your arm supports the back of the cat.

How to hold a cat

Cats tend to like to be hold, but only when they want to. Usually cats do not like to be hold more than briefly. If you caress the cat while holding it will be easier because the cat gets calm. When the cat is starting to struggle, let the cat go. If you do not let the cat go and he is not willing to keep in your arms, the cat can bite and scratch.

A kitten should be hold carefully making sure that you support the whole body with affection.

You can hug a cat supporting its all four feet in your two arms. Or supporting the back of the cat in one of your arms and letting the front paws of the cat on your shoulder.
