Cats can survive outside without human care, returning to a semi-feral state.
Usually this behavior appears in cats that are not receiving proper care at home, or in male cats that are not castrated.
Break the habit of wandering around by calling the cat regularly at the same time of the day for meals, and closing he/she at home for short periods of time.
Do not despise the appetite of your cat, give food regularly to prevent the cat to depart in search for a meal somewhere outside.
Signs of a wandering cat
Tail up, ears in a vertical alignment, and a confident stride can be typical of a wandering cat.
