Cats are skilled predators. Hunting is a natural cats' behavior and there's nothing you can do to avoid it.
If your cat is hunting it's not because he/she is hungry. Even well fed home cats will hunt. Usually the prey that cats play with are small rodents or small birds.
Kittens train for hunters by playing with toys.
When your cat offers you the prey
Cats can bring hunted prey to your home. When your cat brings you a prey, you must understand that he/she is only trying to help in getting food to his/her "family". So, don't tell the cat off. If you do it, the cat might "think" the amount of food was not enough and can go hunt for more.
Injured Birds
If the cat brings you a bird still alive, then place the animal in a small well ventilated box and take it to a society of animals' protection. Let the experts take care of the bird. Many of that birds die from shock.
