Usually cats are not shy. If your cat has become suddenly shy, perhaps this is due to a change in his/her routine.

A shy cat has a tired look and walks with his/her tail tucked. Maybe he/she runs away and hide whenever a strange comes closer. A shy cat may never get used to people.

Shelter
Provide a shelter to your cat. It can be a covered bed so that when he/she feels frightened he/she has a place to feel safe.
